Amos Gill: In Pursuit of Happy(ish)

Gilded Balloon Nightclub

August 2023

⭐⭐⭐⭐

"... a dark, angry, bitter, breath of fresh air"

International rising star and award-winning Australian comedian Amos Gill is rude, crude, offensive and hilarious. In 'In Pursuit of Happy(ish)' Amos challenges the audience to accept their lot in life; to not aim too high. I can't say I disagree with his logic! The reasoning and examples he presented are all well considered, if a little grim.

When imparting his wisdom, Amos often annoys the audience. To wind-up a mainly Scottish audience about Scottish independence near the start of a set is an audacious move! But no-one and nothing is off-limits. From The Royal Family, to seemingly every American he has ever met, and indeed all of his own family and friends, no-one is safe from scrutiny. He really is fearless.

Amos is wickedly smart and funny, confident and courageous - and his dry style of downtrodden comedy and razor-sharp jibes were right-up my street. I'd seen him perform briefly at The Gilded Balloon opening gala last week, and he was easily the stand-out act of the night for me then. Having now experienced his full set, I'm delighted that he was just the dark, angry, bitter, breath of fresh air I was looking for. I love his style and I'm definitely a new fan.
