Returning to the Edinburgh Fringe after a two year hiatus, FLIGHT is DARKFIELD's popular and critically-acclaimed immersive shipping container experience.
Yes it really is based inside a shipping container situated just outside the Pleasance Dome on Bristo Square.
The show begins outside the airplane and then you are given your boarding pass and shown to your seat along with the other 'passengers'. The striking interior exactly resembles that of an Airbus 320 economy cabin. Once in your seat, a menacing safety demonstration starts and you are plunged into darkness for the show to commence.
Not much can be said about the show without spoiling it, but there are certainly a few twists along the way. Flight is a show that will use all your senses. The technology is impressive with the 360 degree sound and other sensory effects used to centre each participant in the narrative.
Over 30 minutes FLIGHT explores the 'Many-Worlds' Interpretation of quantum mechanics, taking audience members through two worlds, two realities and two possible outcomes to their journey.
But unfortunately for me, the twists didn't make much sense and the story was just too strange.
What Flight does very well is the immersive element - you really do feel like you are flying on a plane. I think with a different story to go along with the new theatre technology they are using, the experience could be elevated to something even greater.
