Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap 70th Anniversary UK Tour

There is a reason 'The Mousetrap' is the world's longest-running play.

Based on the novel by the legendary Agatha Christie, The Mousetrap is a thrilling murder mystery that hasn't aged and doesn't feel outdated. Every new Director and cast brings their own spin and energy to the characters.

Now in it's 70th consecutive year, The Mousetrap continues to be performed all over the world and this new UK tour will visit 70 venues across the country this year.

"As news spreads of a murder in London, a group of seven strangers find themselves snowed in at a remote countryside guesthouse. When a police sergeant arrives, the guests discover- to their horror - that a killer is in their midst!"

Opening night, and indeed the full run, in Glasgow is all but sold out. The popularity and reputation of this play endures.

I had seen the play many years ago but it still felt fresh and new. I'd forgotten most of the character's back-stories and this cast brought them to life beautifully.

Each of the eight strong cast were impeccable in their roles. I'm always in awe of stage actors, and this group had me on the edge of my seat and completely invested in their fate.

It's a lot of fun trying to work out 'whodunnit' and this UK tour production delivers the clues perfectly.

There are moments of humour peppered amongst the drama and suspense - it really is a well balanced book.

The set and lighting are both functional and gorgeous! There is so much detail to Monkswell Manor Guest House I was aching to sit by their fire and read a book whilst listening to Mr Paravicini play the piano next door. The Snow storm raging outside is realistic and each of the props and design on stage made for an authentic and cosy atmosphere. I don't fancy being murdered though, so maybe not.

This is the ultimate whodunnit and although the play has been seen by millions of theatregoers, the audience is asked to "keep the secret" and not reveal the culprit. The only way to find out is to go see it for yourself.

You can't go wrong with this current production. A classic done superbly.
