If, like me, you do NOT want to be sat at home on Halloween waiting for passive aggressive teenagers to turn up at your door demanding money - here is a list of some of the fun activities to do in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh (and a couple in London for good measure because they sound so cool!) The focus is heavily on theatre events, but I've added a few others that have caught my eye too. Let me know if I'm missing anything!

A Streetcar Named Desire
The Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh | Thurs 24 Oct - Sat 9 Nov
Pitlochry Festival Theatre's Scottish revival of Tennessee Williams' critically acclaimed classic play A Streetcar Named Desire opens at The Lyceum this month. Reprising her role as Blanche Dubois is Kirsty Stuart (Call the Midwife, River City). Stuart’s original performance of the role led to her being nominated for a 2024 Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) for Outstanding Performance. Children's Classic Concerts: The Haunted Concert Hall
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall | Saturday 26 October 2024 2.30pm
The ghosts and ghouls have taken over the concert hall! And who knows, are those musicians actually supernatural spectres? Join Children’s Classic Concerts on their ghostbusting adventure as they attempt to banish these devilish phantoms once and for all. You can expect lots of spooktacular treats from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the RSNO Children's Chorus with this spine-tingling concert for the whole family.
Dark Temptations: A Twisted Cabaret

In the heart of a shadow laden city, where secrets fester and desires coil like serpents, lies the Velvet Abyss Cabaret. Only Fools and Horses: The Musical

Directed from the West End, and based on John Sullivan's much-loved television show, Only Fools and Horses the Musical features cherished material from Britain’s best loved TV series. The Book of Mormon

Smash-hit musical The Book of Mormon is still at Edinburgh Playhouse (until Sat 2nd November) and you can get £15 tickets every day. So that would be a great last-minute Halloween activity. The Phantom of the Opera - in cinemas Sun 3 and Tues 5 November
The Phantom of the Opera, Royal Albert Hall 25th Anniversary performance is being shown In cinemas on Sunday 3rd and Tuesday 5th November - check your local cinema for times. It's one of my favourites and perfect for halloween!
There are also lots of Halloween specials in cinemas for example Cineworld has a horror season with classic films £5 per ticket including The Babadook and Carrie. The Everyman cinemas are showing tons of modern spooky movies like Smile 2, the new Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice and James McAvoy's 'Speak No Evil.' Showcase cinemas has a Festival of Fear with tickets starting at £4.99. And as usual, Glasgow's brilliant GFT (Glasgow Film Theatre) has the best Halloween films from classic 'Interview with the Vampire' to so more obscure
